Adventure is Everywhere!

We started this trip with a notion (to explore), a direction (to the Baltics!), and a trust in the spirit of nomadic adventure – the rest will figure itself out.

We did not know how far it would be comfortable to drive (turns out my butt goes numb after about 4-5 hours, or 300 Kim’s) in Olaf our adventure camper. So we did not want to book places to stay ahead of time, for fear of not reaching them.

We also have found that the most fun travel experiences come from the moments in between, when we get off the beaten path, and allow for the possibility. As Jasper puts it – Adventure is Everywhere!

We are on Day 4 and will make it to the other side of Poland (not small!) and into Lithuania which is a new country experience for all three of us. Looking forward to that experience, but also looking forward to what the rest of Poland will bring us as we get there.

Pickles?

Road trips are about the in between spaces. The unexpected twists and turns of the road, the places you find yourself in and the people you meet.

After an unsuccessful (due to a lack of pickles) market stop just across the border into Poland. We ended our long day of driving at a cozy campsite between Jamno Lake and the Baltic Sea.

Adventuring down a brick paved road in anticipation of a rest stop near a lake landed us in a farmer’s field edged with colourful and varied wildflowers.

Last night we alit gracefully next to a pond almost in the shadow of the largest castle in the world (by land area) built by the Teutonic Order in the 13th century. I watched the moonrise over it’s turrets last night and then, between rain showers, ran around it this morning.

Tonight we rest next to beautiful lake Sniardy, where we pushed Jasper’s bedtime so that we could all enjoy the sunset together!

Finally, because I know that you are all really worried about our happiness….

Tschuss.

Summer Has Arrived!

We have decided to hop in a camper and explore parts of Europe that we have not yet been to. We’re bringing our accommodation “on our back” so we can reduce contact with people as we go, for them and for us.

Jasper has finished Grade 5! and while we will not stop trying to educate him on how we can all work together to make the world a better place, not stop lending our voices to important topics (#BLACKLIVESMATTER), and start doing a better job of using our privilege to help others, we also needed to do so while having a little fun and adventure.

We will be heading to Poland and then up through the Baltic’s. If you have any suggestions, please share! This is Jasper and Sean’s first time living out of a vehicle (still catching up to Sara on the life experiences bucket list!) so if you have any tips on doing that happily, please share those too.

Much love,
The Ditzman’s
(Sean, Sara & Jasper)
